An OC cast, connected
What is an OC relationship chart?
An OC relationship chart maps the connections between your original characters. Put each character in a node, connect the relevant pairs with lines, and label what each relationship means. It works for an original story, roleplay cast, or an OC joining an existing fictional world.
What this template includes
Six sample characters and seven labeled relationships: best friends, rivals, trusts, fears, mentor, allies, and knows the secret. All names, positions, and connections can be changed. Add characters or remove any connection your story does not need.
Make your OC chart in three steps
- Replace the sample cast. Open the template and select a character to change its name. Use your protagonist as the starting point.
- Name the connections. Edit relationship labels to say what each person wants or feels: “trusts with a secret,” “owes a favor,” or “competes for the lead.”
- Arrange and export. Move characters until their names and lines are easy to follow. Download a free PNG, or choose a paid output when your chart is ready.
Turn labels into story ideas
In the sample, “best friends” gives Mara support, while “rivals” creates friction. The link between Sable and Venn adds a secret outside the protagonist's view. Give supporting characters connections to each other so the whole cast has reasons to act.
Keep it readable
Start with the relationships that matter in your next scene. Use short labels and leave space between clusters. For a larger ensemble centered on one point-of-view character, try the character web template.
OC chart questions
Is this OC relationship chart maker free?
Yes. Edit the template and download a 2× PNG with a watermark for free, without signing up. A single-chart purchase or paid subscription unlocks clean exports. Sign in if you want to save across devices or buy an export.
Can I use it for my own characters and fanfiction?
Yes. Replace the sample cast with your own names and connections to map an original story, a fanfiction cast, or an alternate universe. Your own charts can be used commercially on every plan.
Can I change the chart after exporting?
Yes. Keep editing your chart as the story changes. If you buy single-chart export, later edits to that same saved chart can be re-exported without another purchase. New or duplicated charts are separate.
